ABOUT

Bio:

I grew up in Cicero, Illinois on the outskirts of Chicago. The industrial landscape and blue-collar town played a key role in creating my sensibility to line and space. The son of an American-German father and a Thai mother influenced the lens I saw the world through. My father drove a pragmatism into me, and my mother developed the dreamer.

At the age of eighteen I left Cicero and hopped a train to Minneapolis, Minnesota. I was eager to find my own way in the world. I pursued photography in my personal time at community colleges in the area and in my early twenties I attended California Institute of The Arts. After one year at CalArts my money ran out and I headed back to the Midwest and resided in St. Louis, Missouri. In St. Louis I fell back on my printing skills and eventually became an IT professional for a fortune 100 company. I worked for them for a decade and in that time relocated back to Minneapolis and got married. During this decade I still pursued artmaking.

I had enough of corporate life and decided to complete my art studies at the University of Minnesota. Upon completing my degree in art, I obtained studio space in Lowertown St. Paul and began making art full time, working to turn it into a profession. After a successful year of selling art out of the studio, my wife was offered a job in Colorado. We relocated again, and after bouncing around Denver for a few years we settled down in the foothills outside of the metro.

Artist statement:

The world is a noisy place I get lost in. In order to quiet it down I create art. I work in mixed media that employs digital and analog techniques that explore the confluence between the overlooked and beauty.

I use photography to capture my subject matter. In the studio I digitally refine the image to reflect my embodiment of the scene, I then deconstruct and physically rebuild the image to create my art. My method of using; digital printing, acrylic paint, ink, and adhesive makes an artwork that has a unique textural quality and depth that influences the perception of subject.

Currently I am hunting for the line that connects me with the world, and I think it lives in this confluence.
